Recent Changes of Pacific Decadal Variability Shaped by Greenhouse Forcing and Internal Variability

Pacific Decadal Variability (PDV) has enormous influences on North American and Eurasian climate ecosystems. Its change under anthropogenic warming is of prodigious societal concern scientific dispute. We show evidence that the observed PDV amplified in northeast horseshoe-like region while weakened over South Kuroshio-Oyashio Extension (KOE) since beginning 21st century. Congruently, influence PDV, precipitation anomalies have significantly globally reversed sign Africa East Asia. Analysis Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) historical simulations future projections suggests greenhouse forcing weakens northwestern shortens its periodicity. However, PDV's enhancement eastern boundary likely due to internal variability. Our findings response variability shed light decadal prediction.
